Resins and plastics in the upstream of plastic packaging are located in the downstream of petrochemical industry. The price of crude oil affects the supply of raw materials for plastic packaging. In addition to common food and beverage products, nearly 40% of the demand for downstream products comes from the commercial field, including plastic pipes, waterproof films and other types, which is also the focus of development of various countries and enterprises in the field of plastic packaging.

The mainstream trend of packaging material development in the future is functionalization, environmental protection and simplification. The preservation function will become the focus of food packaging technology development, non-toxic packaging materials will become safer, and plastic packaging will gradually replace glass products; The composite flexible packaging bag made of paper, aluminum foil, plastic film and other packaging materials will be high-grade and multifunctional.

On January 16, 2020, the national development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of ecological environment jointly launched a new version of the plastic ban order. The fghz [2020] No. 80 document "opinions on Further Strengthening the treatment of plastic pollution" proposed the principle of "banning and limiting one batch, replacing one batch for recycling, and standardizing one batch", and put forward specific rigid requirements for the production, sales and use of plastic packaging products and packaging fields. Great changes have taken place in the ecological environment of the packaging industry, and a large pattern of green development of the plastic industry has been formed. In July 2020, the national development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of ecological environment and other nine departments jointly issued the notice on Solidly Promoting the work of plastic pollution control, proposing that from January 1, 2021, some cities will take the lead in banning the use of non degradable plastic shopping bags and other measures, and the "ban on plastic" will be further upgraded. On November 30, 2020, the official website of the Ministry of Commerce announced the measures for reporting the use and recycling of disposable plastic products in the field of Commerce (for Trial Implementation). The Ministry of Commerce will establish a national unified reporting system for the use and recycling of disposable plastic products, receive and process the report information in a timely manner, and encourage retail establishments, e-commerce platform enterprises and take out enterprises to report on the use of environmentally friendly alternative products. On September 8, 2021, the national development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of ecological environment issued the action plan for plastic pollution control during the 14th five year plan. In terms of source reduction, the unreasonable use of disposable plastic products in key areas such as commodity retail, e-commerce, takeout, express delivery and accommodation has been greatly reduced. E-commerce express mails have basically realized that there is no secondary packaging, and the application scale of recyclable express packaging has reached 10 million.

In the future, the demand for environmentally friendly and recyclable packaging will continue to increase. By making full use of the advantages of plastic packaging materials, we will form a substitution benefit for traditional packaging materials such as paper, wood and metal in more high-end manufacturing industries. With the maturity of the recyclable packaging supply chain that can be shared in the logistics system, the recyclable plastic packaging industry will usher in a new growth point, and the applicable fields of environmental friendly recyclable plastic packaging materials will be further expanded.
