Global Times Comprehensive Report: Representatives from 175 countries around the world will participate in the second intergovernmental negotiation conference on the plastic treaty held in Paris, France from May 29th to June 2nd. During this period, an average of over 40 kilograms of plastic particles will fall from the sky over Paris every day.
According to the French "24-hour" news channel on the 27th, due to industrial and domestic emissions, there are a large number of plastic particles in nature. They not only kill over 1 million seabirds and 100000 marine mammals every year, but also enter the human body. Their chemicals may cause cancer, reproductive problems, or genetic mutation risks.
Last year, 175 countries agreed to develop a legally binding international treaty to curb the spread of plastic pollution and plan to complete negotiations by 2024. According to the "Plastic Forecast" data released by scientists for the first time, during the conference, 40 to 48 kilograms of plastic particles will fall every 24 hours over Paris. If it rains, the scale of this "plastic rain" will increase dozens of times; In a year, up to 10 tons of plastic particles will be deposited in and around Paris. (Dong Ming)
