The reporter learned from the World Bank on the 24th that the World Bank's Executive Board has approved a US $250 million loan to help Shaanxi Province reduce plastic pollution caused by rural household garbage and agricultural plastic films.
This project, led by the Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission, will support Shaanxi in improving the level of plastic waste treatment, reducing plastic pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, and establishing an integrated urban and rural waste treatment model. The experience gained from the project is expected to be replicated and promoted, providing reference for the reform and practice of waste management in rural areas in other provinces and for further improving policies at the national level.
"This project will focus on an integrated system of planning, financing, treatment facility construction, stakeholder participation, and performance evaluation, introduce international practices, and demonstrate a scalable transformation model for rural waste management." said Hua Maya, Director of the China Bureau of the World Bank. The expected outcomes of the project include reducing the direct impact of plastic waste on the environment, increasing the amount of waste collected and processed, and introducing innovative models into the management system.
