Consumer digital has always been the high-frequency use field of plastic products. From the product itself to the packaging, plastic is one of our most common materials. In recent years, with the trend of environmental protection becoming more and more prosperous, some technology companies have also started the journey of environmental protection transformation, and Sony is the first one. According to CNMO, Sony will eliminate the use of plastic in the packaging of new products in 2023. This is a positive choice, but it is not easy to implement.
According to media reports, under the background of global enterprises turning to sustainable materials, Sony will eliminate the use of plastic in its product packaging from next year. Specifically, Sony will implement this policy in fiscal year 2023, starting with small products weighing no more than 1kg, such as smartphones, cameras and audio accessories. According to the estimated data, this plan covers 40% of Sony's products shipped in fiscal year 2021.
Before announcing this plan, Sony began the journey of "plastic reduction". For example, the packaging of Sony MDR EX15AP earphones was redesigned, and the plastic bags and blister trays of earphones and cables were replaced with paper materials. The total consumption of plastic was significantly reduced from about 96% to less than 5%. Sony said that our innovative mixed paper packaging has been specially designed, from production to recycling, for truly sustainable development.
