On March 30, 2022, the initiators of "plastic pollution and environmentally sustainable plastic trade" (IDP) held the first informal dialogue meeting in 2022. The meeting was chaired by Ambassador Jose Valencia of Ecuador and attended by more than 130 representatives from WTO members, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and academia. Ambassador Li Chenggang attended the meeting and delivered a speech. He pointed out the progress made by the international community in dealing with plastic pollution since the last informal dialogue, affirmed the work carried out by IDP in the same period, and called on more members to actively participate and jointly promote the consensus reached in the ministerial statement into a practical action plan. Representatives of the WTO Secretariat, the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Conference on Trade and development, the trade environment and sustainability forum and other institutions spoke successively, sharing their work and their opinions and suggestions on the next work of IDP. The EU and the Philippines introduced their experiences and practices in dealing with plastic pollution. Several WTO members made positive statements, introduced their practices and put forward relevant opinions and suggestions.
