According to the statistics and estimation of the Recycled Plastics Branch of China Material Recycling Association, the recycling volume of waste plastics in China will be about 19 million tons in 2021, an increase of about 3 million tons over 2020 (16 million tons), a year-on-year increase of 19%. The output value of waste plastic recycling is about 105 billion yuan, up 33% year on year compared with 2020 (79 billion yuan). Among the recycled waste plastics, waste PET accounts for 29%, waste PE 21% and waste PP 20%, which are still the main components of waste plastics recycling in China. The domestic output of recycled plastics is about 16.5 million tons, an increase of 2.73 million tons or 19.8% compared with that in 2020 (13.77 million tons).
Wang Yonggang, Secretary General of the Recycled Plastics Branch of China Material Recycling Association, mentioned in an interview with CCTV Finance Channel that "China is already the largest country in waste plastics recycling, but we need to establish a standard and specification system for the whole process of waste plastics recycling and utilization. We should not only recycle waste plastics, but also make good use of waste plastics resources to avoid secondary pollution and resource waste."
