According to the Xinhua news agency, Geneva, June 13 (reporter chenbinjie and chenjunxia), lichenggang, China's permanent representative to the world trade organization, said in Geneva, Switzerland, on the 13th that China is willing to work with other WTO members to tackle the global challenge of plastic pollution.
At the press conference on environmental protection initiatives held at the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference on the same day, lichenggang said that "meeting global challenges requires the world's joint efforts and cooperation". China will work closely with other members under the framework of the WTO to promote the work related to the issue of plastic pollution prevention and control.
Lichenggang said that China attaches great importance to dealing with plastic pollution and is one of the first WTO members to take measures to deal with plastic pollution.
He said that sustainability is one of the goals of China's economic and social development. In recent years, China has issued a series of policies to limit plastic pollution. China is willing to share experience with other WTO members and work together to actively deal with plastic pollution from the trade side.
China is the initiator of the WTO informal dialogue on plastics pollution and environmental sustainability and one of the six current co coordinators. The initiative has attracted 72 WTO members to participate in the joint signing.
The four-day 12th WTO Ministerial Conference opened in Geneva on the 12th. During the meeting, WTO members will hold consultations on such topics as intellectual property exemption of the new crown vaccine, epidemic response, fishery subsidies, agriculture, food security and WTO reform.
